Gardening

I finally was able to tear myself away from watching old Netflix episodes of "Say Yes to The Dress" to do some gardening today, Netflix is a dangerous thing and I am hooked!
I am beyond excited to start harvesting and cannot wait until I can make fresh Bolognese sauce and salsa ( for some reason those are the only two things I am super excited about making,,,).  We may have gone a little overboard with planting, 10 tomato plants, potato plants, eggplant, carrots, red, white, green, yellow onion, arugula, buttercrunch lettuce, spinach,  pole beans, pumpkins, and sweet corn.  I found the idea to mark each row with different colored paint sticks from Pintrest *cute*

My favorite vegetable in the garden is this little pole bean, I am obsessed with how cute this thing is!  I have never eaten a pole bean and have absolutely no idea if I will like it, but I am so glad I planted them. *Dorbs*

I wanted to share some pictures of the past week *be prepared for a small photo dump*

This is an old picture that I took that I think is awesome!  Nate is such a great soccer player!

We have several projects going on this weekend, the big one being staining the deck tomorrow, a little nervous about the color we picked...pictures to come

XOXO

Yes!

There have been so many changes in the last few weeks.  Nathan is officially on schedule at the University of Illinois ( and loving it) I have officially enrolled and will be going back ( for hopefully the last time) to school starting in 3 weeks.  We have got the plans rolling on the remodel of the house. Lastly, but most importantly, we are engaged!  The getting engaged part maybe wasn't such a surprise as we have been talking about getting married for quite a while, but the actual proposal was all his doings, and he did it perfectly.

Last evening I had just gotten home from work and Nathan says lets go for a hike!  I was tired and slightly curious/suspicious because it had been raining all day and was a little wet and cold, but I still said Sure, I thought maybe he had something up his sleeve. After we arrived he steered me towards "our " gazebo where a little over a year and a half ago we had our first date  (this date is not counting our numerous trips to McDonalds when we were 17!).  Then I knew something was up!  We sat and chatted for a bit inside the gazebo, and then to my surprise he got down on one knee and proposed!  It was perfect!  I am so excited to start this new chapter in our lives and cannot wait to see where this road will lead.

I apologize for the tired barely there makeup look, but I gotta show off the gorgeous ring!! Its perfect!

The long winter

Just like many of you, we experienced one of the longest harshest winters ever this year. As luck would have it we had just moved into our new home late last summer and were busy just trying to get boxes unpacked and get settled throughout the fall not knowing we would be confined in our cozy (yet very small) house the entire winter. For most that doesnt sound a whole lot different from the normal winters we have in the midwest but for me spending the winter without a heated workshop for the first time in years made it seem like an eternity. That coupled with the extremely low temps and seemingly endless snow fall made it impossible to use my non heated workshop. I had so many projects to do over the winter but without a place to construct and finish them I was dead in the water. All the more reason that Sara and I are really hitting the ground running this spring. We have so many projects going on and in the works that this blog will be crammed full of pictures, information and of course entertaining stories by the time the first snow flake falls again. Everything from landscaping, gardening, construction projects, homebuilt furniture, organic gourmet cooking and maybe if I am lucky some automotive restoration can be squeezed in from time to time. Its going to be a busy summer but you dont chase rainbows sitting on your butt!!!

A little about us and the blog..

Nathan and I first met when we were 17 years old through mutual friends (shout out to Bronwyn).  It was love at first site for him....for me it took another 15 years,, but hey persistence on his part paid off!  We graduated and went our separate ways and lived very different lives.  We reconnected again in our 30's and have been following our rainbows ever since....More about the blog name Following our Rainbows; We have been discussing for quite some time about starting a blog, since we are both sans Facebook to keep in touch with our loved ones. So, while I was on a run (okay, actually more of a fast walk) one day I was trying to think up a great name that really meant something, and for some reason following our rainbows really stuck in my head.  To me "rainbows" stand for all things good, happiness, excitement, creativity, joy, smiles, and love.  So, to follow your rainbows really is to follow your dreams and things that bring you joy.  When I brought this name up to Nathan he loved it, because of course *warning cheese alert* he is one of my many rainbows!

This blog will mainly be about our DIY house projects, with lots of  cooking, and family life thrown in!

XOXO, Nathan, Sara, Nate, Giuseppe, and Hershey
